Agnes Powell died on July 12, 2017 at her daughter’s home in Fairfield, California. She was born on May 8th in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and lived there until her early 20’s. She joined the U.S. Navy after graduating from Louisiana State University. Agnes spent four years in the military working as a medical technologist. After the military, she entered medical school but decided to be a physician was not for her, and chose to stay in the medical field, working as a registered medical technologist at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX. Agnes enjoyed shopping, gardening, gambling, traveling with her family, attending church, and rooting on the LSU tigers, her beloved alma mater.
Agnes had 3 children. Her son Robert Powell, died in 1995. Maggie Powell lives in Dallas TX and Zach Powell lives in Fairfield CA. Her husband Robert G.B. Powell Sr., died in 1968. They were married 19 years.
Agnes was preceded in death by Maggie Zachariah, her mother; and Robert Powell, her son; as well as her brothers and sisters-in-law, Woodrow and Betty Zachariah, Emile and Helen Zachariah, George and Evelyn Zachariah, and Dee Zachariah. Survivors include her sister-in-law, Loretta Powell, and many nieces and nephews.
Agnes’ family will receive visitors beginning at 5:00 pm, Thursday, July 20, 2017, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home. A rosary will begin at 6:00 pm.
Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am, Friday, July 21, 2017, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with entombment following at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock.
Pallbearers are, Johnny Zachariah, Tommy Zachariah, Steve Zachariah, Nolan Marcus, Ken Brown, and Ralph Senn. Honorary pallbearers are Chance Arellano and Stephen Churchill.
