Alfred Rodriguez, 96, of Galveston, passed away peacefully to be with the Lord on Friday, March 29, 2013 at his residence. He was born in Tampa, Florida on February 14, 1917 to immigrant parents, Jesus and Amelia Rodriguez from Spain. Alfred entered the U.S. Army in 1941 and was stationed in Alaska on the Aleutian Islands. After being transferred to Fort Crockett, he remained in Galveston where he owned and operated various businesses.
Alfred was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Hilda Vidaurri. He is survived by their 4 children, Sonia Fondren and husband Ernie, Dolores Pinion, Hilda Moran and Dr. Alfred J. Rodriguez and wife Kathy; his grandchildren Trey Fondren, James Fondren, Thomas Moran, Matthew Rodriguez, Laura Rodriguez and John James Pinion; great-grandchildren Cecelia, Sophia, Avery, Abigail, Isabella and Austin. He was also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Jim Pinion. Alfred is also survived by his wife of 22 years, Micaela Escareno and her 3 children: Patricia Barraza and husband Jose, Cesar Lopez and wife Lori, and Letticia Castro and husband Francisco; grandchildren Ivan, Omar, Francisco, Jr., Justin and Jadyn.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 6:30 pm, Tuesday, April 2nd, with a rosary at 6:30 pm at Malloy & Son Funeral Home, 3028 Broadway. The funeral mass will take place Wednesday, April 3, at 11:30 am at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ernie Fondren, Trey Fondren, James Fondren, Thomas Moran, Matthew Rodriguez and John James Pinion, Rafael Medrano, Jose Barraza, Francisco Castro, Francisco Castro, Jr., Cesar Lopez, and Ivan Barraza. Honorary pallbearers will be Renee Medrano, Augustin Baltazar and Dr. John R. McKenna.
