Alma J. King passed away unexpectedly on June 26, 2017, following a tragic accident close to her residence in Friendswood, Texas.

Alma was born in Dundee, Scotland on July 10, 1957. An only child, she was raised by her mother, Helen Edith King, who preceded her in death in July 1995.  Alma graduated from Ninewells School of Nursing in early 1978, moved to Texarkana, Texas, in August 1979, and worked as a nurse at Wadley Regional Medical Center until August 1985, when she moved to Galveston, Texas.  Alma worked at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston for over 27 years (she had a brief break in service when she worked for St. Mary’s hospital and Mainland Medical Center).  She worked the last 20 years of her nursing career at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston until her retirement on May 31, 2017.  She will be dearly missed by her friends.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 11:30 A.M. from Malloy and Son Funeral Home, 3028 Broadway in Galveston.

I did not know Alma well, however, when I was employed with UTMB Correctional Managed Care, I used to take an occasional break and walk back to the UR nursing area and share some of my many personal stories. I remember Alma laughing with me and the other nurses at these stories. I was very much saddened by the news of her sudden passing. My thoughts and prayers are with Noreen and former co-workers and friends. "Blessed are those who have fallen asleep in Him." Melinda Duroux

Over many years we shared so many stories, so many giggles, and a few tears. Many of my fondest memories were spent with Alma, and her dearest and best friend Noreen. True friends are like diamonds; precious and rare, and Noreen, you were always that friend. I know you will miss her forever, but know you are always in my thoughts. Alma's wit and impish smile will be missed by all that knew her. So long, Bonnie Lassie. Gwyneth. (Gwen)
