Andrew Vargas, 52, of Houston, passed away Friday, October 29, 2010, at his residence. He was born September 9, 1958, in Galveston, Texas and was a graduate of Ball High School. Andrew joined the military and after being honorably discharged, he graduated from Galveston College and worked at American National Insurance Company for 15 years. He later moved to Houston where he owned and operated his own company, USA Rebar Placers, Inc. Andrew’s life was centered around his four sons whom he dearly loved.
Andrew was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Mejia; sisters, Rosie Dominguez and Irene Garcia; nephew, Felipe Garcia, Jr.; aunt, Nellie Gonzalez; and mother-in-law, Belia Castro.
He is survived by his sons: Christopher Paul Vargas and his mother, Jeanette Huwe; Jesse Manuel Vargas; Anthony Andrew Vargas; and Manuel De Jesus and their mother, Tillie Vargas; brother, Steven Vargas; sisters: Mary Helen Davis and husband, Jerry; Linda Williams; Janie Grimaldo and husband, Bernardo; Becky Garza and husband, Greg; Gloria Vargas; Bertilda Gomez; Yolanda Vargas; Adammina De Jesus; and Mary Lou Garza; father-in-law, Jesse Castro; sisters-in-law: Monica Grossman and husband, Michael; Rita Wooley and husband, Michael; and Felice McCauley and husband, Roger; special brother-in-law, Felipe Garcia; special nephew, Joseph Ornelas; special friends, Andres Pena and Joe Basaldua; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Andrew’s family will receive visitors from 6:00 until 8:00 pm, Thursday, November 4th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 am, Friday, November 5th, at Church of the Living God in Galveston with Pastor Robert Dowdy, Sr., officiating. Burial will follow at Grace Memorial Park in Hitchcock.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Paul Vargas, Jesse Vargas, Anthony Vargas, Manuel De Jesus, Steven Vargas, and Joseph Ornelas. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Wooley, Jr. and Glenn Ritter.
Memorials may be made to Star of Hope Mission in Houston or to the Salvation Army.
