Angeline Walmsley, 94, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Thursday, April 26, 2012. She was born in Yoakum, Texas, November 2, 1917. The youngest of 11 children, she was surrounded by a large and loving family. She graduated from St. Joseph’s High School, which formed the basis of her lifelong devotion to the Catholic faith. After graduation, she traveled to Galveston, Texas, to attend St. Mary’s School of Nursing, earning her registered nursing credentials. During her time at St. Mary’s, she met Jack Walmsley. They were married November 16, 1941, in Yoakum. During their 61 year marriage, they were blessed with three children: Harry Joseph, David, and Mary Ann.

As they started their family, their relationship was tested early on by the loss of their first son, Harry Joseph, after a 6 month battle with leukemia. Angeline’s devout faith and love for family carried them through this tragic time. She was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She sacrificed her career for the good of her family, staying home to raise her children and support her husband. She had many interests which included cooking, gardening, and her parish church, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. After her children were grown, she returned to her nursing career until her retirement from UTMB. After retirement, she and her husband enjoyed family gatherings, especially Kutac family reunions, traveling, and visiting Louisiana casinos with their lifelong friends, Lawrence & Marie Kasprowicz.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Agnes Kutac, husband Jack Walmsley, son Harry Joseph, brothers Edward, Joseph, BJ, August, Henry, and Victor, and sisters Minnie, Agnes, Frances, and Mary.

She is survived by her son David Walmsley and wife Brenda, daughter Mary Ann Eriksen and husband Lynn, grandchildren Kelley Stewart, Stephen Walmsley and wife Jennifer, Lynn Eriksen Jr., Deanna Mathis and husband Steve, Stacey Jurecka and husband Dave, Tim Eriksen, great-grandchildren Kylie Bogan, Drew Walmsley, Kaleb Bogan, Erin Walmsley, Brian Jurecka, Michael Jurecka, and Jack Walmsley and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren Kelley, Stephen, Lynn, Deanna, Stacey, and Tim. Honorary pallbearers will be all of her great-grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors at Malloy & Son Funeral Home Monday April 30, 5:00pm – 8:00pm, with a rosary at 6:30pm.

Funeral mass will be Tuesday, May 1, 1pm, at St. Patrick’s Church in Galveston, Texas with a viewing from 12:00-1:00pm. Burial services will follow at Galveston Old Catholic Cemetery.

Special thanks to Dr. Cornelia Agent and the staff at Ashton Parke Care Center.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Angeline’s name to the American Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice.

Your mom was a wonderful woman and a wonderful room mate to my mother, Betty Josephson, at Ashton Parke. May she now be at peace with the angels after such a full and long life.
