Obituary

Ann L. Burke Cannon Sims, beloved wife, mother, and true believer in Christ, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, November 11, 2015, at 7:50am at her home with family at her side. Ann was 78 years young, born August 7, 1937, to John Crittenden Burke and Laura Mae Ross in Pasadena, Texas. Ann had four siblings: Jack, Deve, Mary, and John Burke.

Subsequently, Ann moved to Galveston with her son, Timothy, and God blessed her with husband, George E. Sims, Jr. They married July 2, 1983. George and Ann started G&M Welding in 1985 and continue to operate the company to this day. They are members of Island Church and delight in doing the Lord’s work in numerous and various ways.

Ann was preceded in death by her father, John C. Burke; mother, Laura M. Ross Burke; and brothers, Jack and John Burke.

Ann leaves to cherish her memory and love, her husband, George E. Sims, Jr.; daughter, Suellen C. Dobraski; sons, Frank E. Cannon, II, and wife, Bobbi, and Timothy J. Cannon; sisters, Deve Lockhart and Mary Lacaze and husband, Joe; brothers-in-law, Andy Worthen and wife, Kathy, and Ricky Worthen; grandchildren: Daniel and August Dobraski, Jessica Boehm, Cory, Rachel, Tyler, and Christy Cannon; stepchildren: George Sims, III, and wife, Rhonda, Denise Copous and husband, Joe, Jennifer Sims, Kristy Sims, and Kevin Sims; step grandchildren: Brianna, Devyn and Mariah Sims; Holden, Allison, and Preston Copous; Josh Sims; Karissa and Avielle Tornatore; and Danielle Garcia; nine great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

There are no words to express the loss our family feels. Aunt Laurice was a bright beacon of hope and love within our family and to me as I watched her face life with her own brand of faith and joy and determination. She inspired me with her vigor and thoughtfulness for others. My prayers go out to George, their children and grandchildren. May her life inspire us all to draw close those we hold dear.
