Arleen Mary Kraus, 94, passed away Saturday, August 6, 2016, at Bayshore Medical Center in Pasadena, TX. Arleen was born July 25, 1922, in Galveston, TX. She was a loving homemaker, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her life’s work was the work of the Lord, and that went on in her life all day, every day. Arleen was known to all as a loyal, loving member of Living Water Church. She was a quiet, reserved woman who never wanted attention or honors. She was content to read her bible, watch her cooking shows, and love the Lord. When she saw a need, Arleen would open her heart and her pocketbook. The great grandchildren always knew they could count on her when the ice cream truck came around.
Arlene was a constant gardener. In years past, in her small, tight-knit neighborhood, she won several awards for Yard of the Month. She unfortunately did not pass this unique gift on to her lovely daughters.
Arleen was also a writer – not a writer of books, but of everyday life. In her daily journals, she recorded stories of her children, grandchildren, and church members. Arleen had an eye for the simple things and wrote them in her own special way, composing stories that would make you laugh and think about what really matters at the same time.
Arleen loved God with all her heart, never doubting His Word and His never failing love. Her gift of leadership was not one of speaking, rather it was one of love and prayer. She lived life fully and was led by the word of God. Anyone could see the word of God and His love for her just by the mere act of observing her.
Arleen was preceded in death by her son, Sidney Kraus Jr., and her husband of 62 years, Sidney Kraus, Sr. Sidney and Arleen’s marriage was truly one for the ages.
She is survived by her children: Carol McCafferty and husband, James, of Pasadena, Sandra Lowth and husband, Chris, of Pasadena; Cathy Black and husband, David, of San Marcos; 9 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends.
Arleen’s family will receive visitors from 5:00 until 7:30 pm, Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, August 10, 2016, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home, with burial following at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
