Obituary

Artie (Memaw) Janet Ware died peacefully November 29 in Galveston.   She was 102 years old.    She was a Homemaker.   Artie was born November 19, 1917 in Galveston to Artie and Pearl Shaw.  She attended Galveston Public Schools.  On Christmas Eve 1935 she married Bill Ware.  They were married for 54 years when he died in 1990.  Memaw and Papa Speck were faithful members of Trinity Episcopal Church most of their adult lives, joining Trinity when their children were young.  They both worked in the church; he as an usher and especially she as a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Altar Guild and other church organizations. Most of her time outside the home was spent at Trinity where she made many friends, most of whom she outlived.   She was also predeceased by her faithful son-in-law, Wayne Funke, who was always ready to graciously give her a helping hand.

Artie is survived by daughter, Belva Funke; son, Bruce Ware and his wife Jo Ann, who took good care of Memaw during her later years; two grandsons, Elliott Ware and wife Diane, and Kevin Funke;  three granddaughters, Chele Ware, Pam Davis and husband Ricky, and Cynthia Sifuentes and husband Frank;  three great grandsons, six great granddaughters,  five great-great grandsons,  and two great-great granddaughters.

The family would like to thank Rev. Susan Kennard for her special love, care, and kindness; the caregivers at UTMB and The Meridian; and the hospice nurses of A-Med.

Visitation will be from 9:00 until 11:00 am, Wednesday, December 4 at Malloy & Son Funeral Home in Galveston with a funeral service beginning at 11:00 am, followed by burial at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery.

Hal and I have such fond family memories of dear Aunt Artie J. I especially remember visits in the recent past years and awed with her long life and the blessings the family experienced having her in their lives. She is now at peace with Uncle Speck and loved ones. We are thinking of family at this time.

Aunt Artie J. was one of the finest ladies I have ever known and I will miss her always. She was my dads sister and my moms sister-in-law but most of all she was my moms best friend and she loved her so much.My mom passed away 2yrs. ago on Nov. 29, same as Aunt Artie J, those 2 ladies were family, best friends, and now they are spending eternity together in heaven with our Lord. I have so many memories of Aunt Artie J.and her family, getting together and laughing and remembering good times, she will never be forgotten. I know there are a lot of sad hearts but God is there for each and everyone of you. Belva, Bruce, JoAnn,grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, I am so sorry Wesley and I can’t be there but we love you and are with you in spirit.Diane and Wesley
