her loving family on Friday, June 11, 2010. She was the daughter of Richard Bos and
Beatrice Ann Halloran Bos. Bennette was born in Port Arthur, Texas, on November 10,
1933. She attended school in Port Arthur and Galveston, graduating from Ball High
School in 1951 where she was involved in the Tornettes, TRs and many other school
activities. After her children finished high school, she attended Galveston Junior
College, where she graduated with honors with an Associate Degree in Business.
Bennette was married to Norwood J. Ruiz in St. Patrick’s Church in Galveston on
October 27, 1951. After that time her life was devoted to her husband and her four boys,
Chris, Greg, Donny and Danny, who were truly the love of her life. She never failed to
welcome their friends and her friends into her home and she was happiest to see them
enjoy her cooking and hospitality. She will be remembered as a compassionate and caring friend to many, who could be counted on in a time of need and being an avid fisherman.
Those who preceded Bennette into heaven were her mother, father and brother, Richard Bos, Jr.; her father-in-law, Norwood J. Ruiz, Sr. and mother-in-law, Margaret Elizabeth Ruiz, who also loved her dearly and treated her as their daughter; her granddaughters, Amina and Anna; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Patrick F. and Margie Mae “Tiny” Stepchinski and Nicholas J. and Dorothy Lee Nagorny.
Bennette is survived by and will be long remembered and forever loved by her husband, Norwood J. “Bubba” Ruiz; her children, Christopher Norwood and wife, Melissa; Gregory Joseph and wife, Karen; her twins, Donald Anthony and Daniel Edward; and her beloved grandchildren, Victoria, Eric, Mary, Lilly, Isaac and A.J. She also leaves behind to cherish many happy memories, her dearest friends Barbara and Dan Anastasiadis, Maryann and Angelo Montalbano, Thelma and Louie Giusti, Carol Ann Fieselman, Bobby and Rita Roth, John and Judy Saracco, and her dear cousin, Marion Hoff. Bennette’s family extends a sincere and heartfelt special “Thank You” to two of her many wonderful caregivers, Jason Garcia and Lisa Wolter, for their compassionate and tender care they gave to her and also Dr. Jafri and Dr. Fugii.
Visitation will be from 4 pm to 5 pm on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Funeral Mass following at 5:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Catholic Charities USA, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, March of Dimes or the charity of your choice.
