Bob T Smith, MSG US Army, Retired, age 85, was called to his heavenly home, Friday morning, January 8, 2013 in Christus Saint John Hospital in Nassau Bay, Texas. He was born in Minor Hill, TN, November 16, 1927, Born to the late Byrtle and Mary Myrtle Smith; Bob was husband to Claudean Smith, whom he married on September 19, 1953; father of James and wife Barbara, Pennsylvania, the late Carl and his wife Vicki, Kentucky, Linda Cantrell and husband Paul of Galveston TX, David and wife Kathy of Cedar Park TX, Jeffery and wife Lauren of Colonia, NJ, Amber Sergent and husband Raymond of Galveston, TX; grandfather of 10; great grandfather of 3; and great great grandfather of 1. He is preceded in death by brothers Carmack and John R. Smith, sisters Clarence and Reve; Surviving siblings, brother James and wife Faye, and sisters, Sadie Malone and husband David, Louise Robinson, Sarah Turner and husband Bob. He served the nation for 28 years in his beloved US Army. During the Korean Conflict he was a Prisoner of War (POW) for 33 months. He retired with honors in 1973 as a First Sergeant of an Air Defense Artillery Battery. He also retired from the Texas Department of Corrections in 1990. He was an avid follower of John Wayne and Gunsmoke. There will be a visitation on February 12, 2103 from 5-7pm at Malloy & Son Funeral Home in Galveston 3028 Broadway Galveston. There will be a service with military honors on February 13, 2013 at 10am at John Lutheran Church 1121 39th Street, Galveston, Texas 77550. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bob’s memory can be made to St John Lutheran Church.
