Cheryl Anne Nielsen, 35, departed this earthly life on Thursday, September 10, 2015, to begin her spiritual journey into the arms of our Lord and Savior. We surrender her to Jesus Christ and Mother Mary. Born August 16th, 1980, to Catherine Fabian Nielsen and Michael C. Nielsen, Sr. at St. Mary’s Hospital in Galveston, Texas, she was a BOI (born on the island) and a “hurricane baby.” She was nicknamed “Angel” as an infant and lived up to the name. Cheryl graduated from Ball High School, Class of 1998, and was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Cheryl was a courageous, loving, and kind person.

She is preceded in death by her infant brother, Christopher Michael Nielsen, and grandparents, Frank J. Fabian, of Buffalo, NY, and Frances Fabian, of Galveston, TX.

She leaves behind cherished memories with her mother, Catherine Nielsen; father, Michael Nielsen, Sr.; and stepmother, Lynn Nielsen. Cheryl leaves her younger siblings, too: Shanna Nielsen Thompson and husband, Ben; Michael C. Nielsen, Jr.; baby sister, Kelly Frances Nielsen; stepbrothers, Jeff Falls and wife, Victoria, Joshua Falls, and Timothy Falls; her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Bjarne Nielsen, of Fayetteville, NC; her favorite cousin, Anastacia Gian; her loyal and best friend, Carol Venegas; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family of Cheryl would like to express appreciation and thanks to the following people for their loyalty and support throughout the years: UTMB’s Dr. Sally Robinson, Dr. Shelley Tholcken, and Dr. Susan Gerick; the team behind them: Sandra, Amy, Chico, Linda, & Mary; Tobi Davis and the entire Hospice Care Team; and Sharon Wells from Assist-Med. The family is grateful for the love and support of Stevie and Susanne Fabian; Dr. Johnny Fabian; and Lou Ann Simpton.

Cheryl’s family will receive visitors beginning at 5:00pm, Wednesday, September 16, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home. A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, September 17, at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Richard Goodin, ofm, as Celebrant.

To my beautiful niece, Cheryl Anne, you were the light of all of our lives. Being the firstborn child of the Fabian siblings, you held a special place in our hearts. You were loved by all, especially your grandmother Fran, who will be waiting for you as you take your journey home. Rest in Peace sweet Angel, until we see you on the other side. Love, Uncle Dave and Aunt Betty
