Darling was born in Fairfield, TX and grew up Houston, TX where she lived most of her adult life. She attended Houston’s Austin High School and the University of Texas at Austin. She was a full-time housewife and mother and was active in the lives of her children. As they grew up and attended college, she started a career and retired from Flour Daniel. After retirement she was devoted to the care of her mother until her passing. Darling loved to sew and crochet and crafted countless beautiful garments and afghans for herself and her family. Darling also loved to shop and had a particular affinity for new shoes; she always enjoyed showing off her latest find.
Darling was a devoted Christian woman and maintained an unwavering faith in God to the very end.
Reading scripture and singing the “old hymn standards” were a joy to her even as her memory faded. She was a member of St Pauls’ Episcopal Church and later an active member of Second Baptist Church and enjoyed a rich fellowship with her church family.
Darling had the loving care and support of the Treemont Health Care Center, Concord Homes and Hallmark Hospice. The family extends special gratitude for their gracious, kind healing hands and hearts. Darling always had a beautiful smile to share and maintained that special spirit and sparkle throughout her later years. She will be deeply missed by many, but will live on in our hearts always.
A private family graveside service will be held in Fairfield, TX with the Reverend Susan Kennard of Trinity Episcopal Church of Galveston officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House of Galveston, the Sunshine Center of Galveston, or the charity of your choice.
