Dr. Dean S. Folse, 90, of Galveston, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at his residence. He was born December 19, 1921, in Kansas City, Missouri, the last of four children. He graduated high school at the age of 16 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Husbandry from Texas A&M University. He went on to earn a Master’s degree in Zoology, a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1945, and finally he received a PhD in Pathology from UTMB. Dr. Folse worked briefly as a veterinarian but his main career was spent as a researcher and teacher for such varied places as Auburn University, Kansas State University, and UTMB Galveston, where he taught for over 30 years. Dr. Folse retired at the age of 71. He was an avid reader and stamp collector.
Dr. Folse was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Jean (Blondie) DeMasters Folse, and three sisters. He is survived by a niece, Marcia Miller and nephews, Alan Doak and Stewart Aly.
His family wishes to thank his dear friends Mary Lou Milazzo and Monte Crawford, as well as his caretaker, Alisha Howard, for their love, care, and kindness over the years. They would also like to thank AMED Hospice for their compassionate care.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm, Tuesday, May 8th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Pinard officiating. Visitation will begin at 5:30 pm at the funeral home.
