Dominica Marie DeCaro, age 95, passed away on Friday, November 6, 2015, in Galveston, Texas. She was born July 5th, 1920, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Salvatore and Rosalia Scaglione, immigrants from Sicily, Italy. She lived in Ohio with her beloved 11 brothers and sisters for a number of years and moved to Galveston in 1997 to be near her daughter and grandchildren. Dee loved to cook, garden, read, and travel. She took great pride in being the first of her family to attend college, something she yearned to do from an early age. Known to her family as Mae and to her friends as Dee, she spent many of her years in foreign countries as the wife of Joseph Emanuel DeCaro. She loved to travel and counted many countries and states to her life list. A consummate bookworm, she loved mysteries, historical novels, and cookbooks, and she used her Rosenberg Library card ragged. First and foremost, and from which she took the most satisfaction, she will be remembered as a loving and caring mother, grandmother, aunt, great-aunt, and second “mom” to many “adopted” sons and daughters.
Dee is survived by brothers and sisters: Angelo Scaglione, husband of Sue Scaglione; Rose Termini, wife of Marlo Termini; Sam Scaglione, husband of Ann Scaglione; and Lucy Dulik, wife of Andrew Dulik; her four children: Domenica Zimmerman and husband, Roger Zimmerman, and sons, Angelo, Joseph, and John DeCaro; plus grandchildren, Kathryn and Robert Zimmerman.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 11th, 2015 between 5:00pm and 7:00pm at Malloy & Son Funeral Home in Galveston.
