Captain Donald J. Armand, 75, of Galveston, passed away Monday, September 9, 2013, at his residence. He was born October 4, 1937 in New Orleans, LA. Donald began his lifelong career as a mariner with the University of Washington in Seattle. He loved sailing the seven seas and enjoyed many years with Texas A&M University in Galveston as captain of the research vessel Gyre. Donald also loved recreating history by building model airplanes and ships.
He was preceded in death by his parents, LCDR Joseph J. and Margie Bentz Armand. He is survived by his son, Joe Armand and wife, Suzanne; sisters, Margie Bacile and husband, Nick; and Paulette Armstrong and husband, Bob; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Donald’s family will receive visitors beginning at 5:00 pm, Sunday, September 15th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home. A rosary will begin at 6:00 pm.
