Doris “Dee” Denise Drummond Cannon

My adventure began on February 7, 1956 in Texas City, Texas. My parents were George “Mack” and Doris Marie Drummond. Unfortunately, this adventure ended after I got squished by an elephant on March 4, 2022. Made you go “Wha?” didn’t it.

My childhood was typical of the 50’s, playing in the neighborhood and only coming in when the porch light came on. I was fortunate to experience many different jobs. I’ve been a deck hand, horse trainer, jockey, farrier, bull and bronc rider, barrel racer, roper, draftsman, illustrator, farmer, veterinary technician and artist but the best thing I ever did was marry my best friend and love of my life, my husband of 46 years, Edwin, and being a mom to my children, George Cannon and Karyn McCoy, mother-in-law to Darrel McCoy, and grandmother to Ryan, Randy, London and Danielle.

Edwin and I traveled the world and had a great time doing it. My life has been full of joy and tears but I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. Be happy for me as “a new adventure begins.”

What a sweet and touching story of who Doris was. It touched me. I'm so sorry for your loss. It must have been an absolute treat being around her.

My family and I would like to offer our heartfelt condolences to your family Dee. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time. The first time I met Dee was in December 2015. She was walking her dog one evening, she knocked on our door and introduced herself. We talked and got aquatinted, and she invited us to her Christmas party. She will be missed by all who knew her. RIP my sweet neighbor.

How did an elephant squish her?

My deepest condolences to the family. Denise and I went to Texas City High School together and graduated in 1974. My prayers for you all.

Dee, only you could make all of us laugh and cry at the same time. Your spirit, your love of life comes through in your words and you lived life like no other. I know that your next adventure will truly be amazing. Your family will miss you terribly yet your presence will always be felt. Karyn, you have shared so many stories of your mom and dad, their adventures through life. I pray that all of you find some comfort knowing that she is a world changer.
