Dorothy Marie Overbeck Worthen, 87, of Dickinson, formerly of Galveston, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center. She was born July 21, 1929 in Galveston, TX and graduated from Dominican High School with the Class of 1947. After graduation, Dorothy took her first job with American National Insurance Company before ultimately managing Century Paper for 27 years, retiring in 1992. Dorothy was active in the Dominican Alumnae Association and the 55+ Club in Dickinson. She loved antiques, frequenting garage sales, cooking, and working in her yard.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ida Mae Overbeck; four brothers: Richard, Mickey, Jerry, and Eugene Overbeck; and her daughter, Judy Ann Worthen.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, John L. Worthen; daughter, Barbara Wells and husband, Charles; son, Gary L. Worthen and wife, Beth; five grandsons: Brian and Stacey, Ryan and Lindsey, Matthew and Hayley, Cody and Andrew; six great grandchildren; brothers, J. E. Overbeck, Jr., Robert Overbeck, Walter J. Overbeck and wife, JoAnn, and Louis Overbeck and wife, Linda; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Dorothy’s family will receive visitors beginning at 5:00 pm, Sunday, June 18, 2017, at Sacred Heart Church. A rosary will begin at 6:30 pm.
Funeral Mass will be 2:00 pm, Monday, June 19, 2017, at Sacred Heart Church with burial following at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Dorothy’s grandsons.
