Dorothy Mary Byrne Lopez Burns, 87, of Galveston, passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2014, at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center in Webster. Dorothy was born October 6, 1927 in Galveston and graduated from Ursuline Academy. She met and married Alphonse Lopez in 1952 and spent many happy years as a loving wife, mother, and homemaker. After Alphonse passed away, Dorothy married Edward J. Burns in 1995. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and later St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Dorothy was an avid reader with a particular fondness for romance novels, and she was an accomplished scrapbooker. She also enjoyed traveling and gardening and made many happy memories with her family at the beach.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Michel and Thelma Naomi Byrne; husband, Alphonse Bernard Lopez, Sr.; son, Alphonse Bernard Lopez, Jr; husband, Edward J. Burns; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Joanne Rock and husband, Michael; Judy Amos and husband, Bill; Joyce Mink and husband, Gary; son, John Lopez and wife, Crystal; daughter-in-law, Sheila Lopez; brother, Robert Thomas (Spike) Byrne and wife, Barbara; ten grandchildren: Kimberly Lopez, Bryson Lopez and wife, Kristie; Allyson Lopez; Bill Lopez and wife, Erika; Tina Lopez; Byrne Rock and wife, Courtney; Kate Rock Marici and husband, Matthew; Kevin Lee; Jacob Mink; and Aaron Mink; 13 great grandchildren: Brittany Lopez, Collin Hefner, Kynsleigh Stephens, Teagan Lopez, Avery Lopez, Jordan Lopez, Emily Parkan, Kylie Parkan, Tyler Parkan, Mercer Rock, Sullivan Rock, Grady Marici, and Sophia Lopez.

Dorothy’s family will receive visitors on Friday, December 5th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home. A rosary and vigil service will begin at 5:00 pm, followed by visitation concluding at 8:00 pm.

Graveside services will be 10:00 am, Saturday, December 6th, at Calvary Catholic Cemetery with Deacon Sam Dell’Olio officiating.

Pallbearers will be Bryson Lopez, Bill Lopez, Byrne Rock, Kevin Lee, Jacob Mink, Aaron Mink, and Matthew Marici.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to O’Connell College Preparatory School, 1320 Tremont, Galveston, TX 77550.
