Edward Soto Quintero Sr., age 99, passed away peacefully Friday, December 29, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Edward was born October 14, 1918 in Allende, Coahuila, Mexico to parents Seferina Soto and Hilario Quintero. He met his wife, Juana, at church and they married May 5, 1939. Edward and Juana were inseparable since the day they met. Their love for one another was eternal. Their 78-year marriage was made of patience, hardships, compassion, loyalty, laughter and a deep, unconditional love. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
He spent the majority of his career as a foreman in the cotton industry at Bayside, Moody Compress and Bluebonnet Warehouse where he retired at the age of 79. In the work place, Edward was known as a well-respected person of high integrity and is remembered for his work ethic and giving people opportunities. During his early years he worked as a longshoreman for ILA local 1576. Edward was a family man who always put others before himself. He instilled high morals and values and was a great example of a caring and loving person. He was an avid Houston Astros fan, enjoyed playing poker and loved western movies. He was the master jokester of the family and will be fondly remembered for his corny jokes. Edward was a long-time member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Galveston.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Seferina Soto and Hilario Quintero; his sisters, Isaura Quintero and Susie Aquinaga; his brother, Moses Medina; his son, Robert Quintero; grandson, Christopher Michael Quintero; and great-grandson, Blake Sobnosky.
Edward is survived by his dearly beloved wife of 78 years, Juana Quintero; children: Gloria Cazares and husband Elias, Edward Quintero Jr. and wife Yolanda, Geneva Alvarado and husband Domingo, Richard Quintero, and Janie Garcia and husband John; grandchildren: Dora Garza, Mary Cazares, Sandra Nallie (Tim), Elias Cazares Jr. (Megan), Jaime Cazares (Cat), Laura Quintero-Cantrell (Buster), Darin Quintero (Chrystie), Robert Alvarado (Andrea), Christina Mendoza (Irene), Rachel Hegedus (Matt), Monique Garcia (Cecily), Maria Huerta (Ricardo), Michelle Garcia; and 21 great grandchildren; sister Ramona Diaz; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 5, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Malloy & Son Funeral Home with a rosary beginning at7:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 10:00 am at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Elias Cazares Jr., Robert Alvarado, Darin Quintero, Jaime Cazares, Christopher Stevens, and Vincent Garza III. Honorary pallbearers will be Edward Quintero Jr., Richard Quintero, Elias Cazares Sr., Domingo Alvarado, and John Garcia.
Edward’s family would like to thank the UTMB Physicians: Dr. Kaushik, Dr. Camacho Hughes, and Tammie Michael, NP, and ACE unit staff, as well as the AMED Hospice Team, especially his nurse, Paula Johnson, who was beside us until the end. We are also grateful to Jennifer Silliman and Joann Pena for the in-home care they provided over the past six years.
