Elaine Huddleston Giries, 86, of Galveston, passed away Friday, January 19, 2018, at Gulf Health Care Center in Galveston. She was born February 6, 1931, in Galveston, and graduated from Ball High School. Elaine made her mark in Galveston by selling real estate, a career that afforded her many friends, wonderful memories and a stellar reputation. Her successful real estate career lead to employment at UTMB, where she retired.
More than anything, Elaine adored her family. However, one person stole her heart above all others, her granddaughter, Alexandra. These two created a bond like no other. Elaine was a huge influence in Alexandra’s life, and Elaine’s remarkable character is reflected through her granddaughter.
Elaine was known for her quick wit, incredible sense of humor and her love for the Dallas Cowboys. Every Sunday she could be found in front of the TV cheering her favorite team, win or lose. She loved hosting huge Thanksgiving dinners, Christmas parties and Super Bowl parties, but only if the Cowboys were playing. Elaine will be remembered as one of Galveston’s most beloved citizens because of her infectious personality and desire to make people happy.
Elaine is preceded in death by her husband, George Hanna Giries; her sister, Alice Huddleston Pineda; and her parents, Ralph and Fanny Huddleston.
Elaine is survived by her daughter, Lisa Bowden; her granddaughter, Alexandra Bowden; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Elaine’s family will receive visitors beginning at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, January 23, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home. A service celebrating her life will begin at 2:00 pm, led by Deacon John Pistone.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the charity of your choosing.
Elaine’s family wishes to extend special thanks to incredibly supportive and loving staff at Gulf Health Care Center in Galveston and comfort and peace provided by Holy Family Parish.
