Obituary

Eleanor Antoinette “Cookie” Russo, 68, of Galveston, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2015, at her residence. She was born August 11, 1946, in Galveston and graduated from Ball High School, class of 1965. Cookie then received her B.S. in Health and Physical Education from Southwest Texas State University in 1969 and worked as an elementary physical education and health teacher for Galveston Independent School District for 29 years, retiring in 1998. She found great joy in working with all her students. Cookie also considered her world travels to be one of her favorite lifetime pursuits. She was also very proud that her longtime island home turned 100 years old this year and became listed on the national historic registry; Cookie scheduled several “teas” throughout the year to celebrate.

Cookie was preceded in death by her parents, Marion L. and Mary Russo, and her brother, Marion J. Russo.

She is survived by her brother, Thomas A. Russo, Sr. and wife, Janet; sister-in-law, Helen Russo; nieces and nephews: Rebecca Ansley and husband, Gary; Michael Russo and wife, Liz; Thomas Russo, Jr. and wife, Lori; and Jennifer Russo; and 8 great nieces and nephews.

Cookie’s family will receive visitors beginning at 10:00 am, Saturday, June 13th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home. A memorial service will begin at 11:00 am at the funeral home with burial following at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock.
