Emma Evelyn Mullen, 91, passed away Monday, July 4, 2016, at High Hope Care Center in Brenham, Texas. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am, Thursday, July 7, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home, 3028 Broadway, Galveston, Texas 77550. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 am at the funeral home with burial following at Oleander Cemetery on Broadway in Galveston, Texas.
Evelyn Mullen was born January 23, 1925, at her family’s home near Meadville, Mississippi. Evelyn was reared on the family’s farm, attended public schools, and was a 1943 graduate of Meadville High School. On April 20, 1943, she married James B. Mullen in El Paso, Texas. Following her husband’s discharge from the armed services they moved first to Galveston Texas and then to La Marque, Texas. Evelyn was employed by Community Public Service La Marque, Texas and the Galveston branch of Houston Lighting & Power until her retirement in 1983.
For over fifty years Evelyn and her husband lived in La Marque and attended Trinity Lutheran Church where she served faithfully as a church officer and on various committees. She was also a member of the Eastern Star Lodge in La Marque. Evelyn enjoyed cooking, gardening, and treasured being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Granny Mullen will be greatly missed by her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James; her parents, Jessie and Pauline Steele; two brothers, Glynn Steele and Alex Steele; and four sisters-in-law, Nettie Baker, Dorothy Breen, Hazel McEachern and Barbara Steele.
Survivors include daughter, Jimmie Deane Cox and husband Robert of Brenham; granddaughter, Jodi Guerra and husband Dave of Houston; and grandson, Jeff Cox and wife Victoria of Pearland; great-grandchildren: Luke Guerra, Paulina Guerra, Danielle Guerra, Stephen Guerra and Ashley Cox; nieces and nephews: Tom Steele, Sandy Young, Donna Steele, Bettie Walker, Neil McEachern, Lois Weisner and Robert McEachern.
Serving as pallbearers are Robert Cox, Jeff Cox, David Guerra and Luke Guerra.
In lieu of floral tributes, donations may be made to the memorial fund of Trinity Lutheran Church, 2024 12th Avenue, La Marque, Texas 77568.
