Ernest (Ernie) Lopez, 68, passed away Friday, October 4, 2013. He was born April 9, 1945 in Galveston and graduated from Ball High School. Ernie joined the US Navy and served for 8 years. His working career then spanned several other jobs. He performed seismic work on an oil rig platform in Louisiana, managed a survey company, and also delivered newspapers for the Galveston Daily News. Ernie loved being around people, cooking and having barbecues, helping out family, friends and neighbors, and watching sports, most especially golf and football.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mamie Huerta; father, Luis Lopez; grandmother, Felipa Huerta; wife, Daisy Anna Lopez; and son, Ernest Charles Lopez.
He is survived by his daughters, Antoinette Dunn, of Houston; Mamie (Jessie) Mendoza, of Corpus Christi; Michelle Lopez, of Houston; son, John D. Lopez, of Texas City; sisters, Lupe Aguilar and husband, Tony; and Fran Linton and husband, Gene; 11 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, October 10th, at St. John’s Methodist Church in Texas City. Ernie’s family lovingly honored his request to be cremated.
Ernie’s family wishes to thank Sally Mihovil, Radiation Nurse Coordinator from UTMB, who was so caring and compassionate and kind to our brother and his sisters and son. Special thanks also to the nursing staff on 5C at UTMB, the physicians at UTMB Oncology, and the 5th floor Rehab unit staff and physicians at Mainland Medical Center.
