Obituary

Eunice “Luke” Lera passed peacefully to Heaven, escorted by her beloved Butterflies, at the age of 94 on October 23, 2014 with her family and friends holding her hands.

She was born November 29, 1919 to Thelma and Thomas Nini in Matagorda, TX.

Luke, lived most of her young life on Galveston Island and thoroughly enjoyed time she spent in Corpus Christi singing at a hotel. She married OJ “Duggie” Lera, deceased, (of “Duggies Hunting Club”) and was married for 62 years. She was a stay at home Mom and was extremely proud of raising her children as BOI’s. Luke loved to entertain and cook, drew and painted wonderfully and delighted family and friends with her beautifully designed cakes.

Celebrating events and holidays, and cooking with Family (to keep her daughter from cooking!) was some of her favorite moments in life. Luke had an absolute love of life and laughter and brought great joy to all who knew her. She was always the life of the party…one of her greatest stories was leading the “Conga Line”, in Mexico, during a Bachelorette party when she was 82 years young!

Luke’s participation with her incredible friends in Galveston as a member of the “Widows Club”, The Senior Citizens Center and her active life of “Tai Chi” and the Walking Group at the Medical Center – kept her young at heart.

She is survived by her: Daughter Margaret Lagrone and her Husband Don Lagrone of Clearlake, Texas; her Son, Harry Lera of Galveston, TX; her Grandkids Don Lagrone Jr. and wife Paula Lagrone of Plano, TX; Jay Lagrone of Clearlake, TX; and her treasured Great Grandchildren; Duggie and Hunter Lagrone of Plano, TX; Brooke and Jenna Lagrone of Clearlake, TX; and Michael and Ethan Saadeh of Clearlake, TX.

She is also survived by her Brother-In-Law, Ben “Totsie” Lera of Las Vegas, NV; her neice Joan Corn of Clearlake, TX; her neice Fredye Lou Dennard of Matagorda, TX; and her “adopted” daughter and dear friend Delores Anderson of Galveston, TX.

GiGi’s favorite past time was watching her Great Grandsons play Hockey and her Great Granddaughters perform Gymnastics and Dance.

Thank you for your kind thoughts to the family for their loss. There will be a Celebration of her Life at a later date.
