Florence Mary DeBate Daily entered eternal life on Thursday, January 1, 2015, at Ashton Parke Care Center in Texas City, Texas. She was born June 12, 1916, in Sorrento, Louisiana but lived in Galveston for the last 77 years. Florence loved to fish and was an avid sports fan – especially of the Dallas Cowboys, Rockets, and Astros; in fact, she loved any sport that had a ball in it! Florence worked for many places throughout her career, including Southern Select Brewery during World War II, Jack Tar Hotel Coffee Cove, Don’s Delicatessen, and for her son, Bob Daily, at the 12th Street Inn in Galveston. Florence was a terrific cook and made the best homemade pies and cake you ever wanted to eat.
Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Albert Daily, Jr.; parents, Joseph Francois DeBate and Alice Brignac DeBate; son, John Robert Daily; 5 brothers; 6 sisters; 2 grandchildren; and 1 daughter-in-law.
She is survived by her four children: James E. Daily, Sr., of Hammond, LA; Wiley Daily of Texas City, TX; Doris D. Lee, of Sorrento, LA; and Alice Campbell and husband, John, of Gonzales, LA. She is also survived by 2 brothers and 1 sister, 19 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, 18 great great grandchildren.
Florence’s family will receive visitors from 5:00 until 8:00 pm, Tuesday, January 6th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home, 31st & Broadway, in Galveston. A rosary will be held at 6:30 pm, led by Deacon John Pistone.
Funeral Mass will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, January 7th, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 34th & Broadway, with burial following at Old Catholic Cemetery.
