Frank Lee Myers,71, born on October 9, 1939, passed away unexpectedly on January 2, 2011, at home in Hitchcock, Texas.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents Claude and Millie Tobias Myers.
Frank was born in Galveston, attended St. Patrick’s Elementary School and graduated from Kirwin (O’Connell) High School in l958. He received a B.S. in speech and English from Lamar University in l963. He taught school for Orange I.S.D., Strake Jesuit Prep, Santa Fe I.S.D., and UTMB School Services which later became Moody I. S. D. After ending his teaching career, he did security work. He was a volunteer in the Sheriff’s Reserve and was a Marine Corp Reservist.
Frank was a talented, creative person. He could paint pictures and murals, do woodwork, make furniture and stained glass items. He especially loved going fishing with his nephew. He excelled in speech and dramatics. At Lamar Tech, he was on the debate team that won the Texas Intercollegiate Television Debate Championship on the Sinclair Refining Company’s Young America Speaks series. He starred in several plays at College of the Mainland including The King and I, The Taming of the Shrew, and Father Knows Best. In retirement, his passion was being a volunteer at the Hitchcock Library; he belonged to On the Same Page, the library’s book discussion group.
Frank is survived by his sister, Rose Marie Frey and her husband, Louis, of Houston; his brother, Clarence, and his wife, Shirley, of Rosenberg; seventeen nieces and nephews and a host of cousins.
Memorial Services will be held at Malloy Funeral Home at 10 A.M. on Saturday, January 15, 2011, with Reverend John H. Kappe conducting the services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Hitchcock Library.
