George John Slusarchyk, 81, of Galveston, left us on Saturday April 15, 2017 to join his beloved wife, Joan, and his daughter, Mary-Alice, along with family and friends in the Kingdom of Heaven.
As the patriarch of our family, George was always ready to help us, to guide us, and to make sure we knew that he loved us. He was always there to listen to whatever we had to say and to share a story or two of his amazing life.
George was born August 17, 1935 to George and Anna Slusarchyk in Port Jefferson, New York. He achieved a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn in 1958. During his career of 45 years he was mainly engaged in highly classified Intelligence Programs during the Cold War years. During George’s time away from work, he was passionate about sailing. He was the skipper of his Irwin J24 racing sail boat. Later and to the conclusion of his storied career, George was involved in the installation and testing of state-of-the-art fiber-optical digital data transmission.
After his retirement in 2000, George and his wife, Joan, retired to Galveston, Texas, where they spent their remaining years exploring the Gulf Coast, getting to know the residents, and hosting many gatherings with family and friends. They loved being together and spending their time enjoying the island life.
Visitation will be at Malloy & Son Funeral Home in Galveston on Friday, April 21, 2017 from 12 noon to 1:30 pm. Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Friday, April 21, 2017 at Grace Episcopal Church, 1115 36st Street, Galveston, TX. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
