George Mark Stanich, 75, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, February 27, 2014, surrounded by his family.
George was born in Galveston, TX, the first child of Leon George Stanich and Helen Marie Stanich.
He was a welder and outboard motor mechanic by trade, but his talents with his hands were unlimited; nothing was a challenge for George. He was a waterman and an avid duck and bird hunter. George grew up duck hunting and fishing on his favorite lake, Sweetwater Lake in Galveston.
George is preceded in death by his parents and his uncles, E. W. “Shorty” Stanich and Sonny Hopf.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Norma Stanich; son, Matthew Brett Stanich, whom he taught many of his skills to; brother, Leo Stanich and wife, Starr; sister, Diane Vallejo; stepson, Gill O’Balle and wife, Trudy; granddaughters, Ashley Jones and husband, Mike, and Mandy O’Balle; a very special grandson he thought the world of, his Pal, Cole O’Balle; special cousin, Dolph Hopf and wife, Sheryl; five great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
George’s family will receive visitors beginning at 6:00 pm, Tuesday, March 4th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home. A memorial service will begin at 7:30 pm.
George’s ashes will be spread over his favorite spot on Sweetwater Lake.
His family wishes to extend special thanks to A-Med Hospice and Brad Childs.
