Gerald Lee Mallia, 67, of Galveston, passed into his loving father’s arms at his home on Wednesday, March 14, 2012.
Gerald was born July 20, 1944, in Galveston, Texas. He was a lifelong resident of the island and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a 1963 graduate of Ball High School and a U. S. Navy Seabee. Gerald spent 33 years as a master electrician and electrical contractor. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 527 and the owner of Pelican Electric. He worked doing many jobs for the Galveston Daily News and the City of Galveston. Gerald will be truly missed by those who knew and loved him. He was a kind, generous and loving man who was a true friend to everyone.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Ada B. Mallia and his brother, Clarence, Jr.
He is survived by his daughter, Genette Bassett; son, Boyd Mallia; sister, Frances “Doni” Julian; special niece, Tammy Dafonte Deem; and his friend who was his angel here on earth, William Dafonte; granddaughter, Gracie Bassett; grandson, Jordan Bassett and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors beginning at 5:00 pm, Friday, March 16th at Malloy & Son Funeral Home. A rosary will be held at 7:00 pm.
A funeral mass will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, March 17th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father E. J. Stein, OFM, as Celebrant. Burial will follow the service at Grace Memorial Park in Hitchcock.
Pallbearers will be John Dafonte, William Dafonte, Robert Cherry, Mike Cagnola, Bobby Deem and Benny Dafonte.
