Geraldine Marie Helen O’Donohoe, 86, passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Tuscany Village Skilled Nursing Home in Pearland, Texas. She was born September 16, 1931 in Sweet Home, Texas to Julius E. Munsch and Caroline Slovacek Munsch.

Geraldine was raised on a farm and many of the skills she learned from her family stayed with her throughout her life. She made Galveston her permanent home in 1951 and was still living there independently until the end of last year. As a homemaker, she was an excellent cook and always prepared many huge holiday feasts for her family. Geraldine also loved to embroider which she did with precision and beauty, but her greatest treasures were her cats and her flowers. She planted vegetables when she was younger, but throughout her life the most memorable gardening she did were her beautiful and plentiful flowers. She grew many varieties of flowers, but she loved especially the roses, lilies and the wildflowers that grew each spring. These flowers reminded her of memories from “back home.” Geraldine babysat many children and loved to take the time out to teach them prayers, the alphabet, numbers and how to read and write, including her own sister Joan.

Geraldine’s devout love of God and the Church, family, and friends were the center of her spirit. She was a woman of strength, independence, perseverance, humility, gentleness, generosity, kindness, and sweet nature. These were the greatest gifts she gave to others including her loving bear hugs. Her family, friends, and all those who knew and loved her, will sadly miss her.

Geraldine was preceded in death by her husband, George O’Donohoe Sr.; her son, George O’Donohoe Jr.; daughters, Phyllis Ann O’Donohoe Nebout, and infant Mary O’Donohoe; her parents, Julius and Caroline Munsch; brothers, Emanuel Munsch and Julius John Munsch; and sister Velma Munsch Lee.

She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Armstrong and husband David; son, Marcus O’Donohoe and wife Sandie; grandsons, Samuel Varner and Ray Moore Jr.; granddaughters: Amanda Battle, Misty Lytle, Brandy Kinsey, Mindy Gilbert, Molly Filidei and Sarah Puentes and their spouses; fourteen great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; brothers, Robert Munsch and Harvey Munsch; and her beloved sister, Joan Chambliss.

Geraldine’s family will receive visitors beginning at 5:00 pm, Wednesday, February 28th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home, 3028 Broadway, Galveston, Texas. A rosary will be held at 6:30 pm. and a celebration of her life memorial service will follow.

Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 am, Thursday, March 1st, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 34th Street and Broadway. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Galveston, Texas.

Pallbearers are David Armstrong, Samuel Varner, Ray Moore Jr., Brian Battle, Daniel Puentes, and Chris Homrighaus. The honorary pallbearer is Marcus O’Donohoe.

I met Mrs O'Donohoe on a couple of occassions as George Jr. was a dear friend of mine. To Marcus, I am so sorry for your loss. I know you have lost several family members in the last few years. I will always remember your mother as a strong and gracious lady. With love, Rhonda
