Gil, my nephew..my son from another mother, you will be missed so very much. Your love for the family was and will always be so strong . Your children were your universe . How many talk's we had about how you loved them and how you hoped they would grow up . If they take anything from you I hope it's your passionate look on life, your exuberance on everything and when they love, they love deeply like you did. I'm going to miss you so much and we will meet again . Now you have your Mom and Granny and Grandpa to share that love with in Heaven, it's their time now to have you. RIP Gil

To my good friend Gilbert: God blessed us to have had our paths to cross in high school and beyond. When we were a part of each other’s day to day lives, you always kept me laughing. You were also one of the most giving people I’ve ever known. Rest in Heaven. Many blessings for the entire family.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.
Nick and Karen Voris left a message on February 6, 2021:
Karen and I extend our deepest sympathy and share your loss and sorrow. We also pray that you, Lisa, and your children, Chloe and Zachary, will soon find lasting comfort in the respect everyone had for Gilbert. My wife and I would always look forward to stopping at Mario's, two to three times a week, to eat and spend time with Gilbert. We knew it was going to be a great evening. It was going to be filled with friendship, humor, and laughter. Our granddaughter knew Gilbert from the time she was in a car seat. He would make himself at home and had our granddaughter laughing with his humor, personality and friendship. As she grew older, her family and my wife and I looked at Gilbert as part of our family. When my granddaughter, a teenager, was informed of Gilberts passing, she was devastated. May Gilbert rest in eternal peace, and may his memory be eternal. Brad, Kathryn, and Kaitlyn Ketchum; and Nick and Karen Voris

Nancy & Larry Kitchel left a message on February 5, 2021:
Larry & I first met Gilbert when we were dating and used to come to the island nearly every weekend to eat at Mario's. When we finally moved to the island with our kiddos, we were even more frequent visitors to Mario's and always requested Gilbert when he was serving. We once left him a review on the comment card and on our next visit he informed us that his Aunt Ellen took one look at it and said "That came from the Kitchels didn't it?". He knew our kids' orders (pasta with butter only!) as soon as we walked in the door and when our son was finally upgrading to pizza, he made what Jackson still refers to as the best pizza he's ever had in his life. We absolutely LOVED to hear Gilbert's famous stories and always invited him to pull up a chair and join us so we could hear more. His love for his children was so apparent! He bragged about them and told stories about them every time we saw him. Even when Gilbert no longer worked at Mario's we would occasionally run into him there and he would still pull up a chair and tell us all about what his kiddos were up to. He was passionate about fishing and always had amazing stories from his experiences on the piers, which we loved. Gilbert was upbeat and positive, no matter what was going on in his life. His exuberance was contagious. Our family truly treasured our friendship with Gilbert and we will miss him so much. Our thought & prayers are with his family. He will leave a void that no one else can fill. With much love, The Kitchel Family
