Gus Michael Loomis passed away Sunday, November 7, 2010 in League City, Texas. He was born in Galveston, Texas on October 11, 1941. Gus graduated from Ball High School in 1959 and received a degree from Sam Houston State University in Business Administration. He was co-owner of the Anchorage Motor Hotel. After retiring, his love of people led him to continue working, and he was well known by many as an employee of Walmart.
Gus was a member of the Galveston all-star Little League baseball team and played first base in the Little League World Series Championship game in 1954. He was a splendid athlete at Ball High where he played football and was a starter on the track team.
In college Gus was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity. He was also a member of the Galveston Toastmasters and the Galveston Rifle and Pistol Club. Gus was a devoted son, brother and a devout member of The Assumption of Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church.
Gus was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Loomis, Sr.; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Pappas; and uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Gus C. Loomis. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Mike Loomis and wife, Jane; brother, Andrew W. Loomis; nephews, Hamilton Loomis and wife, Sabrina; Mike Loomis, III and wife, Veronica; and cousins, Connie Kay Magliolo and husband, Joe and Ronnie Loomis.
Gus’s family will receive visitors beginning at 5 p.m. on Thursday, November 11, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home. A Trisagion will be held at 7:00 pm. Funeral service will be on Friday, November 12, at 12 noon at The Greek Orthodox Church. Burial will follow the service at the Greek Orthodox Cemetery in Galveston.
