Harold Loyd Thompson of Galveston passed away peacefully at his home on January 5, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.

Harold was born on March 16, 1930, in Huntsville, Texas, to Lula Mae and Albert S. Thompson. In his youth, he worked on the family farm and proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corp, stationed in El Toro, California. He attended college at Sam Houston State University where he was a member of the Ravens Fraternity. He graduated with a degree in agricultural engineering which led him to his first job at the Army Corp of Engineers in Galveston. He later branched into the home and commercial building business and founded Thompson Construction Company. In mid-life he changed careers and became a stockbroker and financial planner. He and colleagues opened the first AG Edwards office in Galveston. He finished his career at Capel, Moss and Associates – Merrill Lynch office in Galveston.

Harold had a great passion for his farm which gave him a keen sense of nature and a love of the outdoors. He also enjoyed traveling, sailing, riding on his tractors, vegetable gardening, working in his shop, and viewing Offats Bayou and lights and fireworks at Moody Gardens. THE SIMPLEST OF TIMES WITH HIS GRANDDAUGHTERS WERE HIS GREATEST JOY IN LIFE.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Lula Mae and Albert S. Thompson, and his siblings, Evelyn Louise Knighton, Helen T. Webb, and Col. Albert S. Kelly.

Harold will be sadly missed. He is survived by his “darlin” wife of 16 years, Linda Ott-Thompson, his beloved daughter, Kara Annette Thompson and her mother Gretchen Hill Thompson, his devoted step-daughter, Jennifer Elizabeth Ott, and his precious “grandbabies,” Jacey Marie Dlabal, Juliana Jolie Dlabal, and his “little buddy” Emery Grace Sells. He is also survived by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bernard and Bunnie Ott, his sister-in-law, Denise Ott Charpiot, brothers-in-law, Marshall Ott and wife Angie, Richard Ott and wife Patricia, Terry Ott and wife Linda, Danny Ott and wife Monica, Mark Ott and wife Tami, Craig Ott and wife Sheila, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family gives special thanks to Mark Capel and the Merrill Lynch branch for their friendship and loyalty, the staff of nurses at UTMB ACE unit and MICU for their care, Charlicia Montgomery for being a phenomenal caregiver, and Monica Ott and Sheila Ott for their guidance and devotion.

Pallbearers will be Harold’s nephews, Erik Ott and Kyle Ott, and brothers-in-law, Terry Ott, Danny Ott, Mark Ott, and Craig Ott. Honorary pallbearers will be Harold’s father-in-law, Bernard Ott, brothers-in-law, Marshall Ott and Richard Ott, and nephews, Ronnie Rigell and Brick Pomeroy.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 9, 2016, at 9:30 A.M. followed by services at 10:30 A.M. at Malloy & Son Funeral Home. Burial will immediately follow at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery.
