Obituary

Judge Henry Dalehite passed away at his home in the presence of family on April 22, 2016 at the age of 87. Judge Dalehite was a native Galvestonian. After graduating from Ball High School in 1945, Judge Dalehite attended The University of Texas at Austin. He graduated from UT in May of 1949 and was accepted to The University of Texas Law School, where he graduated with honors in 1951. While at The University of Texas, Henry met Virginia Willrich, of DeQuincy, Louisiana, also a student at The University of Texas. The two were married in 1951 and had four children. After graduating from UT Law School, Henry served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps during the Korean War. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Army, Judge Dalehite returned to Galveston to practice law with a local law firm where he later became a partner. He was elected Judge of the 122nd District Court in Galveston in 1978 and served on the bench until retiring in 1994. He continued to serve as a visiting judge until 2004.

He served as president of the Galveston County Bar Association and was a member of the Galveston School Board and a Galveston City Councilman.

Judge Dalehite was a loving father who was known for his calm and even temperament. As a judge, he used logic to weigh all the facts of a case before passing judgement. He was known as a stern yet caring judge.

Judge Dalehite played football for Ball High School and The University of Texas at Austin. He played badminton at the Galveston YMCA from the early sixties until 2008. He was considered by his peers to be one of the best players in Galveston. He also enjoyed playing tennis and watching football on Sunday afternoons.
