Obituary

James B. Mullen, 93, of Brenham, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2013, in Brenham, TX.

His family will receive visitors beginning at 10:00 am, Tuesday, January 22nd, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home, 3028 Broadway, Galveston, TX 77550. Funeral services will follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Pastor C. O. Magee of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow at Oleander Cemetery on Broadway.

James B. “Moon” Mullen was born April 7, 1919, in Galveston, Texas. He was raised in Galveston and attended St. John’s Lutheran School near his home. On April 20, 1943, he married Evelyn Mullen in El Paso, Texas. James served his country in the United States Army during World War II, serving in the 13th Armored Division, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. “Moon” was employed by Monsanto Chemical Company, Texas City, Texas, as carpenter shop foreman until his retirement in 1981.

For over fifty years, James and his wife lived in La Marque and attended Trinity Lutheran Church, where he was a faithful member. He was a life member and Past Master of the La Marque Masonic Lodge #1325. “Moon” enjoyed gardening, watching sporting events, and using his carpentry skills on many projects. Papa Mullen’s special joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, who loved being with him, too.

Mr. Mullen was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Jeanette Mullen; three sisters: Nettie Baker, Dorothy Breen, and Hazel McEachern; and brothers-in-law, Glynn Steele and Alex Steele.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; daughter, Jimmie Deane Cox and husband, Robert, of Brenham; grandchildren: Jodi Guerra and husband, Dave, of Houston; and Jeff Cox and wife, Victoria, of Pearland; great grandchildren: Luke Guerra, Paulina Guerra, Danielle Guerra, Stephen Guerra, and Ashley Cox; nieces and nephews: Bettie Walker, Neil McEachern, Jeanette Westerman, Lois Weisner, and Robert McEachern; sister-in-law, Barbara Steele; and nieces and nephew, Tom Steele, Sandy Young, and Donna Steele.

Serving as pallbearers are Robert Cox, Jeff Cox, David Guerra, and Luke Guerra.

In lieu of floral tributes, donations may be made to the memorial fund of Trinity Lutheran Church, 2024 12th Avenue, La Marque, TX 77568.
