James “Jimmy” S. Shaw, Jr., 74, of Galveston, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2015, at UTMB Hospital. He was born March 9, 1941 in Galveston, TX and graduated from Ball High School with the Class of 1959. He married the love of his life, Joan Maser, on July 7, 1961, at First Lutheran Church. Jimmy worked as an instrument man/electrician at Amoco Oil Company until his retirement after 30 years of service. In his younger years, Jimmy loved racing, and in his older years was an avid Nascar fan. He also spent many a happy moment fishing, hunting, shrimping, and bowling. He was also very attached to his four-legged friends, most recently his dog, Lola. A true Galvestonian, Jimmy loved his island dearly and never wanted to cross the causeway.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Edna Mae and James S. Shaw, Jr., and his daughter, Kimberley Anne Shaw.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 54 years, Joan Maser Shaw; daughters, Karen Renee Ruiz and husband, Greg; and Kelly Suzanne Pagan and husband, Jack; grandchildren: Victoria Leeann and Eric James Ruiz; Payton Lee, Riley Shaw, and Jack Shaw Pagan; and numerous other family members and friends.
Jimmy’s family will receive visitors from 3:00 until 5:00 pm, Sunday, May 17th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 am, Monday, May 18th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home with burial following at Galveston Memorial Park in Hitchcock.
Pallbearers will be Greg Ruiz, Eric Ruiz, Jack Pagan, Kenneth Maser, Jr., Albert Choate, and Todd Burke. Darrell King will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church of Galveston or to the Galveston ASPCA.
