GALVESTON – Janet Hill, 52, peacefully passed away on Saturday February 27, 2010 in Galveston, Texas after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Born on February 26, 1958, she was a Galveston BOI and graduate of Ball High School.

Janet found her first great love in life at a very young age, high kicking her way into the hearts of Galvestonians, as Colonel of the ’77 Ball High Tornettes. Through the years, she participated in Barbara Crow’s dancing school, shined as a Whirlette, and was crowned the highly coveted “Miss Tornette” award.  She would often refer to this time in her life as one of her favorites, retelling stories of the girls dancing from “goal post to goal post.”

A dedicated employee, Janet found her home at variety of places over the years, where she was truly treasured. From her high school years at the Dairy Queen, a manager at Hill’s restaurant and Nate’s Steakhouse, to office work at Sander’s Chiropractic and UTMB Medical Center, she will always be remembered by her co-workers as a dedicated team player.

Yet, without a doubt in her mind, her greatest accomplishment was raising her three children. Whether it was cheering on Annie at dancing competitions, rooting for Smitty at baseball games, or applauding Lauren at college graduation, her first priority was to be there. With the help of her mother, father, and brother, Bill, she made sure that they were well taken care of and greatly loved.

Janet is preceded in death by her father, William Jerry Brick. She is survived by her mother Grace Brick; brother Bill Brick; daughters Lauren and Annie Hill; son Smitty Michael Hill; grandpuppy Banjo; and nephew pup Sam.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Malloy & Son Funeral Home in Galveston. Her Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday 1:00 pm at St. Patrick Catholic Church followed by burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ryan Colelli, Timothy Galvan, Chopper Nance, Drew Pearcy, Michael Pohoriles, and Mitchell Stephenson. Honorary pallbearers will be Lance Corporal Quentin Colelli, USMC, Staff Sgt. Clinton Girton, US Army, Joshua Hernandez and Brigham Hill.

Her family would like to express gratitude to the Colelli, Girton, Stephenson, Pacini, Hernandez, Nash, Murphy and Pohoriles families. We would also like to thank MD Anderson Cancer Center, as well as Dr. Gregg White and the UTMB nursing staff.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Janet’s memory, to the UTMB Department of Surgery Cancer Fund, 301 University Blvd., Route 0527, Galveston, TX 77555.
