JoAnn Louise Welch, 56, of Galveston, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2016, at Jennie Sealy Hospital. She was born October 11, 1960, in Redbud, Illinois. JoAnn worked as a waitress and housekeeper at several places, including the Dutch Kettle, Oh! Susanna’s Bed & Breakfast, and Jody’s Cleaning Service. She became disabled in 2009 and was unable to work. JoAnn was very proud of her Native American heritage and received a certificate of appreciation from the St. Libre Indian School for the Sacred Feathers Friendship Tribute for her compassion and support of her Native American veterans. She was a very loving, caring, down-to-earth woman who enjoyed reading her bible and other books, puzzles, games, Facebook and Youtube, history, discovery, and nature television shows, movies, candy, and music, especially George Strait. JoAnn’s life was centered around her love for her sons. She attended Island Church.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her sister, Denise Smith; mother, Doris Summers; father, Fred Lehr; husband, William E. Welch; and daughter, Dina L. Welch.
She is survived by her sons, Charles R. Welch and William E. Welch, Jr.; sister, Jeannie Harper; and best friend, Julie Anderson.
JoAnn’s family will receive visitors beginning at 6:00 pm, Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home. A memorial service celebrating JoAnn’s life will begin at 7:00 pm.
