Joe “PePe” Hernandez was born November 2, 1919, in Corpus Christi, TX. He passed away peacefully on October 26, 2014. PePe spent his childhood and adult years in Galveston, TX. He loved life and always wore a warm-hearted smile. He loved to ride his bike, fish, play bingo, shoot pool, and bowl; but most of all he enjoyed telling stories of his military service. PePe proudly served in the US Army during World War II, where he saw action in the Philippines. He worked for Todd Shipyard for 40 years, starting as a laborer and docking hand and retiring as an Electrician in 1981.
PePe was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Rosie Hernandez; and parents, Margarito Hernandez and Antonia Prado.
He is survived by his children: Mary Ellen Copado (Lupe), Joe G. Hernandez (Lauren), and Rosalie Daly (Brad Williams); grandchildren: Anthony Copado, Lisa Henry (Stan), Todd Hernandez (Tahnee), SSG Alan Daly (Erma), Allison Graves; and twelve great grandchildren.
PePe’s family will receive visitors from 5:00 until 7:00 pm, Monday, November 3rd, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home, 31st & Broadway in Galveston.
Graveside service will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, November 4th, at Grace Memorial Park in Hitchcock.
Honorary pallbearers will be SSG Alan Daly, Anthony Copado, Todd Hernandez, Lupe Copado, Stan Henry and Brad Williams.
