Johnie Cox was born October 19, 1931, in Picher, Oklahoma, to Clyde and Lois Hulvey Cox. He departed this life November 1, 2012. Johnie joined the US Coast Guard in February 1949 and served faithfully and honorably until his retirement in May 1971. Johnie loved life. He loved to travel, read, study, and learn something new every day. Johnie was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lois Marietta Cox. Johnie was blessed with a son, Paul; and four daughters: Candice, Michele, and Sherrie, who survive him; and Andrea, who preceded him in death. Other survivors include his sister, Lois Clydean Jewell; the mother of his children, Shirley Cox Peters; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; his wife Marietta’s children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren; and many dear friends. Johnie’s family extends much love and thanks to Roberta Watson, who was a good friend and tremendous caregiver. Johnie’s final wishes were to have his ashes scattered at sea aboard a US Coast Guard vessel in the Gulf of Mexico. Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there, I do not sleep I am a thousand winds that blow I am the diamond glint on the snow I am the sunlight on ripened grain I am the gentle autumn rain When you wake in the morning hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds circling flight I am the soft starlight at night Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there, I do not sleep
