Joyce Marie Smith, 81, of Galveston, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at her residence. She was born November 28, 1932, in Edmond, Oklahoma to Otis and Luella Bogue. Joyce graduated in 1953 from Jefferson Davis College and worked as a registered nurse. She married the love of her life, Charles B. Smith, on January 30, 1954, and they were married for 41 years. Joyce worked at the Galveston Art League but spent many happy years as a loving wife and mother, an amazing cook, and a very talented seamstress. She was very active in St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, where she served as the organist for many years, and later was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Judge Charles B. Smith.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Finnegan and husband, Robert; son, Brian Smith; sisters, Patricia Broady and husband, Allen, and Donna Ester and husband, Rick; brothers, George Bogue and wife, Diane, and Warren Bogue; grandchildren: Brandon Smith, Kelly Finnegan and Tim List, and Justin Finnegan and wife, Amy; step great granddaughters, Adalie and Kinley; and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
Joyce’s family will receive visitors beginning at 5:00 pm, Friday, July 18th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home. A vigil service will begin at 6:30 pm, led by Deacon Sam Dell’Olio.
Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am, Saturday, July 19th, at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father EJ Stein, OFM, as Celebrant. Entombment will follow at Calvary Mausoleum.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Ester, Jr., Dennis Harrington, Kevin Harrington, David Harrington, H.C. Schulz, and Gerald Smith.
