Julius Olvera Mejia, Sr., 87, of Galveston, passed away Friday, July 29, 2011, at UTMB Hospital. He was born October 23, 1923, in Galveston, and served his country in the US Army during World War II. Julius was missing in action during his service and was the proud recipient of the EAME Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and 6 Bronze Stars. Julius worked as a supervisor in the paint department for Todd Shipyard for many years until his retirement. He was also a member of the Woodman of the World, the Local Painter’s Union #130, and Sacred Heart Church.

Julius was preceded in death by his wife, Carmen Mejia; son, Rudolph Mejia; daughter, Hortense Mireles; stepson, Lupe Lemus; parents, Charlie and Margarita Mejia; brothers, Charlie, Louis, Jesse, and Joe Mejia; and sisters, Margaret DeJesus, Nellie Gonzales, and Mary Alvarado.

He is survived by his sons, Julius Mejia Jr. and wife, Josie; and Lionel Mejia; sister, Dorothy Mejia; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

His family will receive visitors beginning at 5:00 pm, Sunday, July 31st, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home. A rosary will be held at 6:30 pm.

Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am, Monday, August 1st, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Dickinson.

Pallbearers will be Julius Mejia, III, Michael L. Mejia, Tony Mireles, Michael S. Morales, Joseph A. Morales, and Sam Garcia.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of UTMB 10th floor ACE unit, as well as Hospice Care Team, Inc., and Dr. Lee Grumbles for their professional and compassionate care.
