Kathy Jean Ruttiger Taylor, age, 59, of Galveston, TX, left this life to be with her Heavenly Father on July 27th, 2018. Kathy was born on March 4th, 1959 to Edward Hauffman Ruttiger II and Barbara Jean Ruttiger Norman at St. Mary’s Hospital in Galveston.

Kathy was a Ball High Graduate, class of ‘76. She continued her education at Galveston College, where she obtained her Associates Degree in Nursing in 1991. With passion and dedication to her profession as a Registered Nurse, Kathy set her goals even higher, receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing in 2014 and a Master’s Degree in Nursing Leadership and Management in 2015 at Western Governors University. There are two things Kathy took extreme pride in, her family and career. She was not only a strong woman, but also strong in her Catholic Faith, life, and mentorship to all.

Kathy is preceded in death by her father, mother, and niece, Crystal Gerondale. She is survived by her loving husband, Ronnie Taylor; children, Justin Popovich (Kimberly), Kalyn Morrison (husband, Marcus), Jonathan Popovich (Stormy), Ryan Taylor, and Tonee Taylor; four beautiful grandchildren who loved her as their “Gma,” Riley, Charlee, Mila, and Knox; sister and brothers, Diana Espinosa (Harvey), Edward Ruttiger III (Julie), and Timothy Ruttiger (wife, Veronica); numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.

She will be missed by all who knew and were touched by her graciousness, generosity, and devoted love.

Kathy’s family will receive visitors beginning at 10:00 am, Saturday, August 4, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home. A service celebrating her life will begin at 11:00 am at the funeral home.  A celebration of Kathy’s life will immediately follow the service at Tin Cup’s Caddy Shack, 9020 Stewart Road, in Galveston.

Laura Lozano Edwards posted on 7/30/18

At the end of May, my Mother went into the hospital and was released to Meridian Memorial weekend. I was a world of emotions of crying, had no sleep, and was clueless to nursing home protocols. On May 29, I called and asked for the Director of Nursing, and a familiar voice answered the phone and I said my name, the person said "Laura Lozano is that you, it's Kathy, Kathy Ruttiger". Oh my from there on and for 21 days Kathy took me and my Mom under her angel wing, explained the process, helped me with medical paper work, instructed nurses for the proper care, listened to me and we both caught up on our lives as we were high school and middle school friends. She was friends with me, Darcy, Liz, Gail, Joan, Bernie, Angie and so many more. Kathy also visited my Mom's room as they were on the same floor at the Meridian. She told my Mom, your daughter is my friend and we went school together. Immediately my fear and anxiety was relieved by me knowing Kathy was there. Kathy took countless calls from me, checked on my Mom, text me often on my Mom's progress when I left for Austin. On June 14th, my Mom checked out and Kathy was right there making sure my Mom had her meds and all paper work done. I told her often that she was God sent for me and my Mother. Kathy and I had planned to go walking on the beach when I came back to town but that day never happened. So in her memory every time I walk the beach I will think of her and I know that God has made her an angel for all her friends and especially her family. She will be deeply missed. I hope the nurses at the Meridian remember her dedication and use that to empower them to do the best in the careers.
