I had the pleasure of working with Kathy at the meridian.. She talked about her family quite a bit and it was so easy to see how much she loved you all. She was a wonderful person and D.O.N. My prayers and condolences to the family. She will be greatly missed.
My heart is feeling the loss of a beautiful soul who touched my life years ago, and I still feel today with the thought of her. My deepest condolences to her great family of loved ones, children and grandchildren. My prayers are for strength and peace in your lives, knowing it is as it should be and that we will all see each other again. Make her proud of the lives you are living, honor her memory, for just a she gave her friendship to me, she has given the best to you all, as well.
At the end of May, my Mother went into the hospital and was released to Meridian Memorial weekend. I was a world of emotions of crying, had no sleep, and was clueless to nursing home protocols. On May 29, I called and asked for the Director of Nursing, and a familiar voice answered the phone and I said my name, the person said "Laura Lozano is that you, it's Kathy, Kathy Ruttiger". Oh my from there on and for 21 days Kathy took me and my Mom under her angel wing, explained the process, helped me with medical paper work, instructed nurses for the proper care, listened to me and we both caught up on our lives as we were high school and middle school friends. She was friends with me, Darcy, Liz, Gail, Joan, Bernie, Angie and so many more. Kathy also visited my Mom's room as they were on the same floor at the Meridian. She told my Mom, your daughter is my friend and we went school together. Immediately my fear and anxiety was relieved by me knowing Kathy was there. Kathy took countless calls from me, checked on my Mom, text me often on my Mom's progress when I left for Austin. On June 14th, my Mom checked out and Kathy was right there making sure my Mom had her meds and all paper work done. I told her often that she was God sent for me and my Mother. Kathy and I had planned to go walking on the beach when I came back to town but that day never happened. So in her memory every time I walk the beach I will think of her and I know that God has made her an angel for all her friends and especially her family. She will be deeply missed. I hope the nurses at the Meridian remember her dedication and use that to empower them to do the best in the careers.
