It is with great sadness that the family of Larry Paul “Bear” Barnette, 38, of Spring, TX, shares his unexpected passing. Bear was the firstborn son of Larry and Llyn Barnette of Bayou Vista, TX. His early years were spent in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, where he attended Pawhuska Elementary, Indian Camp and Jr. High. He was active in Boy Scouts and church. Bear moved to Texas in Jr. High and attended Strack Jr. High, Klein Oak High School and NW Church of the Nazarene. He was Baptized at Houston First Church of the Nazarene.
Bear was a gifted mathematician, guitar and saxophone player. He played in his high school marching band and continued to enjoy composing and performing music with his friends for many years after.
Bear had a passion for the outdoors. He loved swimming from a young age, eventually becoming a lifeguard, and later especially enjoyed kayaking and rock climbing. Bear worked in the restaurant industry for many years both in service and management. He was known among colleagues for his easy social nature and sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ann and Jerry Wilson, of Pawhuska, OK; and John Barnette and Francis Rogers of Bossier, LA.
He is survived by his father, Larry Barnette; mother, Llyn Barnette; brother, Beau Barnette; sister, Erika Barnette Morris; brother-in-law, Morgan Morris, as well as his niece, Shelley Morris; grandmother, Jo Barnette; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and his dog, Lucy. He is dearly missed.
Memorial services will be held at Malloy & Son Funeral Home, 3028 Broadway, Galveston, TX 77550 on Sunday, October 10. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm with service beginning at 1:30 pm.
