Laurence Agatha Alsandor, affectionately known as “Aggie,” went to be with the Lord on Pentecost Sunday, June 7, 2014. Born on February 5, 1912, she was the second of seven children from the union of Vincent and Olympia Alsandor.
Aggie received her early sacramental rites as well as her early Catholic education in Louisiana. She followed her older sister, Nora, to Galveston in 1938. She diligently studied and became a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She ended her career working in the Psychiatric Ward at John Sealy Hospital.
When Aggie arrived in Galveston, she joined Holy Rosary Catholic Church. She attended mass and devotionals on a regular basis. Aggie was a member of the St. Joseph Society, the St. Monica’s Society, a Third Order Franciscan, and until her last day on earth, Aggie was a member of the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary Court #8, in Opelousas, Louisiana. Aggie was the oldest member at Holy Rosary Church and one of the oldest members of Holy Family Parish.
Aggie is preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Nora, Gracie, Sister Mary Paraclete, SSF, Louisiana, and Marian; and one brother, Richard. She is survived by her devoted niece and caretaker, Marie Ann Payne; her faithful watchdog, Red; and other relatives and many friends.
Heartfelt gratitude goes out to the Geriatric Homebound Care Team, the UTMB A.C.E. Unit, the Texas City Hospice Care Team, Ms. Bell, Mrs. Mallini, Mrs. Garcia, Mrs. Julia Lazard, Cheryl Alsandor, and to my special sisters, Joyce, Phyllis, and Rosa, many blessings your way.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, June 20, 2014 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with a rosary at 10:30 am and funeral mass at 11:00 am with Father John Taosan, OFM, as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Mainland Memorial Cemetery in Hitchcock.
