On Saturday, May 15th, 2010, Lena Milligan, cherished wife and mother, peacefully passed away. Born in Porto Empedicle, Italy, she moved to Galveston, Texas at the age of 17 to attend Dominican High School. Lena married Jim Milligan in 1957 and became active in many parts of Galveston life. Devoting her energy not only to her children and family, she actively participated in many volunteer activities such as Theta Delta Beta Sorority, WAG Assoc. of The Galveston Country Club, San Giovanni Assoc. of Galveston, and Ladies Auxiliary of St. Peter’s Parish. Lena will be missed by one of her favorite pastimes, her Mahjong group which she loved dearly. She always put the needs of her family and friends ahead of her own. Lena spread kindness and joy to everyone she came into contact with, and her lessons of caring will long endure.
Lena is survived by her husband of 53 years, Jim; her daughter, Debbie Stock and son-in-law Steve; their sons, Stuart and Hudson of Friendswood; her son, James of Houston and partner, Chad Bryant; her son, Dominic and daughter-in law, Daun; and their daughters, Lauren and Lindsay of San Antonio. Lena is also survived by her sister, Gina D’Orlando and husband, Tony of New York; her brother, Carmine Bennici of New York; and her brother, Ray Bennici of Florida; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Lena’s family will receive visitors beginning at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, May 19th, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 pm at St. Patrick’s, with burial following at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Galveston.
Pallbearers will be Steve Stock, Stuart Stock, Hudson Stock, Dominic Milligan, James Milligan, and Chad Bryant.
Honorary pallbearers are Otis Milligan, John Milligan, Anthony Puccierello, Paul Attanasio, Wirt Ludwig, and Harry Forester.
