Obituary

Lillie Connilee McNully Martin of Galveston, Texas died on February 4, 2015 at the age of 91. She did not think of her life as hard but many who knew her thought so. She was the second oldest of 10 siblings of a poor farming family in rural Arkansas. Her older sister died when Lillie was five, leaving her as the oldest daughter, where as a pre-teen she often completed her chores with a younger sibling perched on her hip. Their life was hard but they were unaware, happy and loving. She also had two sisters and a brother from her father’s previous marriage.

After marrying her husband, Joe Ross Martin, the couple contributed to the support of her family, as did other brothers and sisters as they grew to adulthood. She and Joe continued to share their blessings with many individuals in need throughout their lives.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Lucy Victoria Moore McNully and Sammie Roy McNully; husband of 62 years, Joe Ross Martin; sisters, Beatrice Lahoma McNully, Carmen Viola McNully Alexander and Bera Louise McNully Cook; and brothers, Carlos J McNully, Claude Victor McNully, Robert Sidney McNully, George Lemuel McNully and Clifton Leroy (Bud) McNully. She is survived by her sister, Lyda McNully Reinheimer of Lindale, Texas; brothers, David Glenn McNully of Little Rock, Arkansas; James Luther McNully of DeQueen, Arkansas; and Joseph Lester McNully of Oro Valley, Arizona; sons, Larry Ross Martin and wife Carolyn of Galveston, Texas and Joe Franklin Martin and wife Sallye of Fayetteville, Arkansas; grandsons, Seth Nicholas Martin and wife Desiree of Pooler, Georgia and Sam Hathcock of Fayetteville, Arkansas; great granddaughter, Adia Nicole Martin and great grandson, Talfryn Isaac Martin of Pooler, Georgia; and many nieces and nephews.

In the words of her brother James to her son Larry, “Joe Martin could not have had a better wife, I could not have had a better sister, and you could not have had a better mother.”

Her body will be interred with that of her husband Joe at the Houston National Cemetery, Houston, Texas.
