Miss Lois W. Reading was born June 17, 1916, in Galveston, Texas to Mr. and Mrs. Austin W. Reading. After 96 years of a loving and adventurous life, she crossed to Heaven on October 14, 2012, at UTMB Hospital. Lois graduated from Sacred Heart Academy, Dominican Sisters Education. She worked at the Santa Fe Railroad as a comptometer operator and retired August 31, 1965. Miss Reading volunteered at St. Mary’s Dominican Mother Home in Houston. She enjoyed doing beautiful handwork and baking. Her specialty was jalapeno jelly that she made for her church Oktoberfest, First Lutheran Church.
Miss Reading is preceded in death by her parents and her sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Charles Cross.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 pm, Tuesday, October 16th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be 2:00 pm, Wednesday, October 17th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home with burial following at Episcopal Cemetery in Galveston.
Pallbearers will be Joe Cappadona, Reid Linde, George Rivaux, and Ben Rivaux. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Giusti, Richard Thiem, Frank Henry Reading, and Charles Jones.
Miss Reading would like to take this opportunity to thank her wonderful, caring friends and neighbors. She especially appreciated the help of Eula Mae for 15 years.
