Louis Michael Tortorici, Jr., 82, of Bayou Vista, passed away Monday, March 5, 2018, in Webster, Texas.
He was born August 8, 1935, to Louis and Stella Tortorici in Cleveland, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Jared Kohler; his sister, Arlene Myers; and the love of his life, his wife of 59 years, Mary “Billie” Tortorici.
Lou is survived by son, Michael Tortorici and Maria; daughter, Dorie Pearce and Kevin; daughter, Stella Kohler and Dan; son, Lou Tortorici and Deanne; son, John Tortorici; son, Jim Tortorici; son, David DeOre and Michelle; grandchildren Whitney Pearce, Tony Tortorici, Christian Tortorici, Henrietta Tortorici, Louie Tortorici, Isabella Tortorici, Mia and Mitchell Tortorici and their mother, Missy, Sophia DeOre, and Christian DeOre; 4 great-grandchildren; dear family friend and caretaker, Sue Garza; his dog “pretty girl” Lexie; numerous nieces and nephews, other family members and friends.
Lou was a SONAR operator in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a postal worker, an umpire, ran his own chemical company, worked at Shriner’s tissue bank, and retired from UTMB Renal department. Lou had a passion for sports, especially the Houston Astros, Houston Rockets, Cleveland Browns, La Marque Cougars, and the O’Connell Lady Bucs.
Lou’s family will receive visitors beginning at 10:00 am, Friday, March 9, at Sacred Heart Church in Galveston. Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 am, Friday, March 9, at Sacred Heart Church with burial following at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock.
Pallbearers will be sons, Michael, Lou, Jim and David; son-in-law, Kevin; and close friend, Steve Williamson. Honorary pallbearers will be son-in-law, Dan; grandsons, Tony, Christian, Louie, Mitchell, and Christian; and great-grandson, Anthony Tortorici.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the charity of one’s choice.
