Lucia Valastro Fichera, 88, of Galveston, was called to be with our heavenly Father Monday, June 14, 2021.  Affectionately known as “Momma” or “Nan” by her family, she was the rock on which the foundation of this family rested.    A gentle, warm, selfless woman, she was loved by all. Momma was born in the small…

Nana was such a special person. She took care of some of Galveston’s children. Lindsay, our daughter was in a group with Kristen, Jennifer, Jessica and Joseph. Her home was spotless, the Children were so happy to see her everyday. She loved them dearly. I can picture her with the kids lined up spooning fruit cocktail to the kids. One time she moved her tv to sweep behind it. She founds many, many sandwich cookies or Oreos with the middles missing… just the cookies shoved under the tv. She will be missed by everyone.

Jaymie and I are deeply saddened by her passing. I know John Fichera, and his family will be in great pain for an unmeasurable amount of time, and hope he and his family find something in these messages to help in some small way to lesson that pain. God Bless you my dear friend John. I regret not being able to enjoy one of her famous meals. John, she will always be there, just over your shoulder. Robert & Jaymie

My sincere and deepest condolences are with you all! My Aunt was one of a kind. The love she had for her family was beyond measures. The one, and there were many, fun story is when we flew from Galveston to Dallas Love Field. While going through security, they pulled her aside and asked to have her baggage and purse checked out. In her heavy Italian accent, she stated, "I no have nothing.". Now this was the time after 9 11 when the airports had heavy security present. I was told by one of the security officer to keep going and not wait for my Aunt. After she got through security and we found our gate she said in her accent, "Freda, Imma not going to fly anymore, why they picked on me, I no like it. " She then preceded to take her pill and on the way home of our 40 minute flight she kept her eyes closed and didn't say a word until we landed. Rest in peace, Zia Lucia, you lived a long life and are now home with our loving Savior in heaven. You will be deeply missed but not forgetten. 🙏🙏💕💕
